Basics of ecology are important not only at good times

It seems in extreme situations, especially during intensive business development phases, people start to forget basics of ecology. Example from eastern Slovakia - the damaged environment and ecosystem is leading to overpopulation of mouses and people start to use toxics on fields to controll them. But it is contraproductive and very dangerous game. Instead of renewal of natural ecosystem and its elements people act against. Enormous loss of the trees, damaged waterholding capacity of the land are only two examples of the elements which would naturally keep ecosystem stability. So there is a time to bring the basics of ecology to the conscious mind of society again.
